Scissor-tailed Flycatcher (Tyrannus forficatus), Camp Verde, Yavapai County

In May 2007 Paul Ollig found a Scissor-tailed Flycatcher in Camp Verde, Yavapai County, AZ. The species is a casual migrant and summer visitor to southern Arizona. There is one nesting record for the state, of a pair was found nest building in Dudleyville. When Paul re-found the bird on July 2, associating with Western Kingbirds, there was speculation that it might have stayed and mated with a Western Kingbird. This hybrid species pairing has been observed in other states. On July 4, 2007 Roger Radd observed the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher feeding hybrid young at the same location. James McKay obtained this photo of the adult and a juvenile.
