Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus ), Apache Junction, Maricopa County

Monk Parakeets have successfully established breeding colonies in several states in the U.S. including AZ, FL, GA and CA. There is an apparent colony in the Casa Grande area, but this is the first report of them in Apache Junction.

They breed in colonies and build a huge colonial nest. They often construct the nest in a Palm trees or on a man-made structure.
