Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea), South of Growler, AZ, Yuma County

Little Blue Heron is very rare in Yuma County, with only a handful of previous county records. It is rare, and somewhat regular in the state in very small numbers. It used to be almost annual, but in recent years has become less regular.

Note that this individual is a juvenile, clearly showing the diagnostic gray primary tips, a useful characteristic to separate it from Snowy Egret.
