Canada Warbler (Cardellina canadensis), Gilbert Water Ranch, Maricopa County

This Canada Warbler was photographed by Chris Benesh on 12 and 14 September 2020

Rare vagrant to state. First identified by Holly Thomas when discovered on 12 September. Identifiable photos were obtained then by Chris Benesh, but subsequently much better photos were obtained by him, and others (below). There have been 13 previously accepted records for the state, the last being at Lee's Ferry this past 23 May. The last fall record was in Phoenix on 23 September 2005. Most of the Arizona records are from fall.

Note the gray back, the bold white eyering, and the bright yellow underparts with a distinct "necklace" of black streaking.
