Common Crane (Grus grus), Kinnikinick Lake, Coconino County
Crane was photographed by Dalton Sonnenberg on 02 July 2020
Presumably the same individual that has summered at
nearby Mormon Lake in 2017 and 2019. This year it was
first discovered at Mormon Lake on 9 May 2020 by Brian
and Richard Hofsetter. For more information see the
here and a note discussing the record
here. A different Common Crane was also found in
northeastern California in late summer of 2020.
Mostly gray body, with a distinctly large,
black-tipped bustle. Black crown and forehead.
Noticeable was a white rear portion of the face
extending to the hindcrown, and extending down the back
of the neck. The bill appeared to be a dull yellowish.
The legs were blackish
