Arctic Tern (Sterna paradisaea), Canoa Ranch Conservation Park, Pima County

This Arctic Tern was found by Craig Thayer, Ed Dunn, and Ricardo Barrios on 18 May 2020 and photographed by Craig Thayer, Gary Rosenberg, Brian Nicholas, Patricia Isaacson, and Chris Rohrer on 18 May 2020

If accepted by the ABC would represent the seventh state record and the first to be photographed (there are two specimens). Previous records are evenly split between late spring and September.

Small tern similar to a Common Tern but note the small head, short bill and legs, very translucent primaries with a narrow black trailing edge to the primaries, underparts dusky gray, and the black cap almost reaches the gape.
