Heermann's Gull (Larus heermanni), Solar Power & Water Ponds, Yuma County

This Heermann's Gull was found and photographed by Brian Johnson on 25 May 2018

Heermann's Gull is a casual visitor to Arizona from the Gulf of California and occurs nearly year round, but most records from late fall. Although there are more than 40 records of Heermann's Gull in Arizona, it is the most notorious "one day wonder" and only a few have ever stayed in one location for more than a day.

One of the most beautiful and unmistakable gulls. Adults with a white head, slate gray body, darker gray mantle, black legs, and a deep orange-red bill.
