White-winged Scoter (Melanitta fusca), Near Cattail Cove State Park, Lake Havasu, Mohave County

This White-winged Scoter was found by Brad Buchel, Mitch and Kelly Thorson and Catherine Gitkov and photographed by Catherine Gitkov on 28 December 2016

Found during the Bill Williams River CBC.

Rare but regular fall migrant and winter visitant in the state, primarily along the Colorado River.

Large dark duck with sloping forehead, extensive feathering out onto the bill, a white "comma" below eyes, and white secondaries. The white "comma" below the eye, and red-orange bill indicate a male.
