Broad-winged Hawk (Buteo platypterus), Mormon Well, Mohave County

This Broad-winged Hawk was found and photographed by Shawn Langston on 22 April 2016

Casual in spring in Arizona, but increasingly reported in recent years in Arizona and throughout the western US. Less than five records for the county and this is believed to be the first from the northwest corner of the state.

Small Buteo with rufous barring below, broad black and white bands on the tail, fairly pointed wings and a light underwing with dark border.
