Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena), Katherine Landing, Lake Mohave, Mohave County

This Red-necked Grebe was found by Magill Weber and Chris Rohrer and photographed by Chris Rohrer on 17 January 2016

Casual (though increasing) migrant and winter visitor. This has been an above-average winter for Red-necked Grebe in Arizona.

A medium sized grebe, smaller than a Western and larger than a Horned, with large mostly yellow bill, and a blocky triangular-shaped head. The cheeks are white and the black cap extends just below the eyes. The neck is whitish anteriorly and dark brown posteriorly.
