Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti), Oxbow CG, La Paz County

This Ruddy Ground-Dove was found by Judy Crawford on 2 September 2015 and photographed by Judy on 03 and 05 September.

This species is rare and local in the state, primarily in late fall and winter to southeastern Arizona and the Phoenix area; casual in La Paz County. There are relatively few September or August reports, which have mainly been from certain areas of southeastern Arizona in the early 2000s, where and when the species bred.

This female Ruddy Ground-Dove is similar to a Common Ground-Dove, but note black marks on the scapulars; a clean, unstreaked head and breast; and an all-gray bill.
