Least Tern (Sternula antillarum), Lakeside Park, Tucson, Pima County

This Least Tern was found by Chris Rohrer and photographed by Duncan Brown on 16 May 2015

Once a casual visitor to Arizona, this species has increased in the last few years has nested. It is nearly annual in the Phoenix and Willcox areas in mid May and June. This species is still rather rare in Pima County.

Adult unmistakable with white forehead and yellow bill, tiny size. The individual seen nearby at Sweetwater Wetlands continued while this bird was being seen, confirming that they were different birds.
