Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis), Nutrioso, Apache County

This leucistic Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) was found and photographed by Eric Hough on 09 February 2015

Leucistic Red-tailed Hawks are uncommon, but this species tends to show this plumage abnormality more often than many others. This individual has fairly limited leucism (note the uneven distribution of white in the feathers); some Red-tailed Hawks can be strikingly white due to complete lack of pigment on most or all feather tracts.
