Sprague's Pipit (Anthus spragueii), Santa Cruz Flats, Pinal County

This Sprague's Pipit was found by Mark Ochs, David Pearson, and Arik Krogstad and photographed by David Pearson on 10 January 2015

Although this species winters regularly in southeast Arizona, this may be only the third record for Pinal County.

Plain face, streaked back, necklace of streaks on upper breast, pale legs, no tail wagging, and furtive/crouching behavior while foraging distinguish this species from the common American Pipit.
