Herring Gull (Larus argentatus), Lake Pleasant, Maricopa County

This Herring Gull was found by found by Tim Marquardt and Anita Strawn de Ojeda and photographed by Tim Marquardt on 10 January.

In Arizona, this species is rare away from the lower Colorado River Valley.

A bulky gull, noticeably larger than Ring-billed Gulls it was associating with, with pale grey upperparts, pink legs, fairly large bill with red gonydeal spot, pale iris, and black primaries.
