Surf Scoter (Melanitta perspicillata), Roper Lake State Park, Graham County

This Surf Scoter was found and photographed by Jeff Coker on 15 November 2014

Surf Scoter is a rare but regular late fall migrant with peak passage in November. It is the most regular of the scoters in Arizona. However there are only one or two prior records for Graham County.

Large, heavy bodied, dark duck with two white ovals on the face contrasting with a darker cap.
