Nanday or Black-hooded Parakeet (Nandayus nenday), Dobson Ranch Golf Course, Mesa, Maricopa County

This group of three Nanday Parakeets was photographed by Alexandra May Hunter on 06 June 2014.

A small population of Nanday Parakeets has persisted at the nearby ASU Research Park for several years. This South American species has become established in Florida and California.  It is worth tracking their population in Arizona since it is possible they could become established here some day. These birds likely wandered from the ASU Research Park, which is less than 5 miles away.

Green overall with a black hood, red thighs, a muted turquoise chest patch, and blue and black flight feathers & tail.
