Short-tailed Hawk (Buteo brachyurus), Ron Morris Park, Tubac, Santa Cruz County

This Short-tailed Hawk was independently discovered by Zach Smith and Sheril (Sam) Huselton and Christie Van Cleve on 13 March 2014 and photographed at the same time by Sheril (Sam) Huselton.

Short-tailed Hawk has been expanding its range northward and increasing in Arizona for the last several years and it has bred. However most reports are from montane forest in the "sky islands".

White underparts, including throat.  Black tailing edge to wing.
