Lapland Longspur (Calcarius lapponicus), Vanderslice Road, Mohave Valley, Mohave County

This Lapland Longspur was discovered by Lauren Harter and David Vander Pluym and photographed by Lauren Harter on 21 January 2014.  There were three present, but only two were photographed (first three photos are of a different bird than the fourth).

Very rare in the state but reports are increasing. This is the third consecutive winter that there have been Lapland Longspurs at this location. To date there are 28 accepted Arizona records.

Bold black auricular frame contrasting with yellowish supercilium, white underparts with black streaks on the sides and flanks and a black breast patch, rufous nape.
