Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena), Lake Havasu, Mohave County

This Red-necked Grebe was discovered on 17 Aug by Gjon Hazard and photographed by Brad Singer on 07 September 2013.

Casual (though increasing) migrant and winter visitor. This appears to be the earliest report for the state with the previous early date being 21 September.

Unmistakable in breeding plumage.  Long yellow bill, dark cap contrasting with whitish cheeks, and reddish neck
