McCown's Longspur (Calcarius mccownii), Mohave Valley, Mohave County

This McCown's Longspur was discovered by Lauren Harter and David Vander Pluym 0n 20 January 2013 and was photographed by David Vander Pluym on 25 January 2013.  One of at least 4 present at this location near the intersection of Courtwright and Vander Slice in the sourthern Mohave Valley since 12 Jan. This individual is different from the bird already posted because of plumage differences.

Rare and decreasing throughout Arizona, there are very few records of this species for the Lower Colorado River Valley. One was found at this location in November 2011.

Large pink bill, black breast band, broad supercillium on an otherwise plain face, and rusty coverts.
