Chestnut-sided Warbler (Setophaga pensylvanica), Gilbert Riparian Water Preserve, Maricopa County

This Chestnut-sided Warbler was dicovered by Steve Ganley on 24 October 2012 and photographed by Gordon Karre on 31 October 2012.  This bird was discovered at the SW corner of Pond 1 which is the hot spot at the Water Ranch for eastern warblers.  This one spot has hosted multiple Tennesee Warblers, multiple Magnolia Warblers, multiple American Restarts, Blackpoll Warbler and Black-throated Green Warbler.

Rare transient and winter visitor, perhaps increasing recently.

Bright wingbars, green back and crown, bright eye ring, gray breast and belly. Distinctive habit of cocking its tail.
