Broad-billed Hummingbird (Cynanthus latirostris), Bill Williams NWR--Mosquito Flats, La Paz County

This Broad-billed Hummingbird was photographed by Tim Schreckengost on 12 April 2012

This bird could possibly be the first La Paz County record and is a rarity in the Lower Colorado River Valley. The bird was first found by Lauren Harter and David Vander Pluym on 04/11/2012.

Either a juvenile or adult female. First heard the jitit call similar to that of Ruby-crowned Kinglet combined with the wing buzz. The bill appeared to be long and downcurved with the red/orange coloring at the base of the lower mandible. Supporting photos are attached.
