Purple Gallinule (Porphyrio martinica), Marana, Pinal County

This Purple Gallinule was photographed by Gregory Greene on 29 July 2011

This deceased bird was photographed and collected at 33544 S. Longhorn Trail, Marana. It was seen a day or two beforehand, but turned up dead in the yard of Randy Feriend with cactus spines in its feet. The bird was photographed and collected for the UA collection by Greg Greene.

rare visitor in late summer. Not seen every year.

Adult is unmistakeable.
