Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla), Glendale Recharge Ponds, Maricopa County

This Semipalmated Sandpiper was discovered and photographed by Kurt Radamaker on 20 August 2011.

A rare, but regular, fall transient in Arizona.  Usually associates with other peeps.

Crisp pale edges to feathers indicate this is a juvenile.  Black legs, stout bill and lack of rusty scapulars eliminate Least and Western Sandpiper.
