Yellow Grosbeak (Pheucticus chrysopeplus), Ash Canyon B&B, Cochise County

This Yellow Grosbeak was discovered by Mary Jo Ballator on 12 June 2011.  It was photographed by Joe Woodley and Jim Hayes on 12 June 2011 and by Christie Van Cleve on 13 June 2011. 

Yellow Grosbeak is a casual summer visitor to Arizona, with the majority of the records in June.  There are 19 previously accepted records and one additional report pending with the Arizona Bird Committe.  The was also an additional report of a female from Patagonia on 11 June 2011.

This female Yellow Grosbeak shows the characteristic large size, massive head and massive gray bill, yellow underparts and white spotted wings.
