Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus), Cochise Lake, Cochise County

This Whimbrel was photographed by Jim Lawrence on 28 April 0011

Rare transient statewide except in the Lower Colorado River Valley where is it uncommon.  More frequent in spring. 

Dark line through the eye, light stripe above the eye then dark. Also light medium crown stripe. Bill shape of a Whimbrel. Lacks warm cinnamon-brown color of a Long-billed Curlew.
