Tricolored Heron (Egretta tricolor), Rio Rico Pond, Rio Rico Drive, Santa Cruz County

This Tricolored Heron was discovered by Michael Lester on 5 May 2011 and photographed by Alan Schmierer on 08 May 2011.

Tricolored Heron is a casual visitor to Arizona, most often in summer. Most records are of immatures but this is an adult.

Contrast between dark breast and white belly unique among North American herons in all plumages.
