Hooded Warbler (Wilsonia citrina), Tumacacori, Santa Cruz County

This first year female Hooded Warbler was discovered by Will Russell on 31 October 2010 along the Santa Cruz River N of where it crosses Santa Gertrudis Lane.  It was photographed by Dick Dionne on 03 November 2010.

Rare transient and summer visitor with most records in the spring. A former review species, reports have increased over the last few years and there are now multiple reports every year.

Most closely resembles female Wilson's Warbler, but has dark lores, olive outline to yellow face suggesting male's hood and large white tail spots which are just visible in this photograph.
