Red Phalarope (Phalaropus fulicarius), Bog Hole Wildlife Area, NW San Rafael Valley, Santa Cruz County

This Red Phalarope was discovered by Alan Schmierer and Matt Brown and photographed by Alan Schmierer on 15 September 2010.

Casual transient at ponds and lakes in SE AZ, chiefly in the fall, but also in every month except March

From Red-necked Phalarope by plain gray back and thick bill.  From Wilson's Phalarope (see comparison in last photo) by dark auriculars and thick bill.
