Violet-crowned Hummingbird (Amazilia violiceps), Lower Madera Canyon, Pima County

This Violet-crowned Hummingbird nest was first found and reported by Jay Taylor on 18 July 2010 and photographed by Laurens Halsey on 20 July 2010.

This is the first documented breeding record for Madera Canyon and Pima County.  Violet-crowned Hummingbird is a local breeder at various locations in southeast Arizona and a rare summer visitor to Madera Canyon.
