Tundra Swan (Cygnus columbianus), Gilbert, Maricopa County

These Tundra Swans were discovered by Jim and Mary Griffith, and Gordon and Sally Barnes and photographed by Jim Griffith on 25 December 2009 along Higley Road, about 5 miles south of the 202, maybe 1 mile north of Chandler Heights Blvd.

Casual transient and winter visitor to Maricopa County.

All these birds display the yellow mark in front of the eye, which, when present, is diagnostic for Tundra Swan.
