Berylline Hummingbird (Amazilia beryllina), Madera Canyon, Pima County

Berylline Hummingbirds have been reported at various locations in Madera Canyon this year since later April.  This Berylline Hummingbird was photographed by Laurens Halsey on 12 June 2009 at the Kubo.

Rare summer visitor to Sky Islands of southeast Arizona. Increasing number of reports in recent years, particularly this year.

Overall green body plumage and rufous tail are indicative of Berylline Hummingbirds. The limited extent of the green on the underparts and the gray belly mean this individual is a female.
