Streak-backed Oriole (Icterus pustulatus), Stump Canyon, Hereford, Cochise County

This adult male Streak-backed Oriole was discovered and photographed by Pete Sockness on 01 May 2009 in his yard in Stump Canyon in the southern Huachuca Mountains near Hereford.

The Streak-backed Oriole occurs less than annually in southern Arizona and and once in northern Arizona. Nests have been discovered near Dudleyville and Marana.

Note the streaked back, bright orange malar area and broad based bill with a relatively straight upper mandible.
