Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti), Slaughter Ranch, Douglas, Cochise County

These two Ruddy Ground-Doves were found and photographed by Michael Moore on 5 February 2005 at the Slaughter Ranch east of Douglas while he was searching for the Blue Mockingbird.  They were also photographed in the company of two Inca Doves on 11 February by Ken Kertell.

Occurrence of Ruddy Ground-Doves in Arizona decreased for a couple of years, but this fall and winter has seen an increase in the numbers reported in Arizona, perhaps due to the currently wetter conditions.

Gray bill, black spots on scapulars and tertials, lack of scaling on head and breast, overall ruddy color. These appear to be two males of the paler, expected west Mexican form.
