Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis), Parker Dam, La Paz County

Long-tailed Duck is rare in winter in southern Arizona and Surf Scoter is a rare fall transient and casual winter visitor. This duo was first reported at Parker Dam, La Paz Co, AZ/Riverside Co., CA on 9 December 2006 by Charlie Babbitt and Sig Stangeland. Since then they have been seen by many birders. Parker Dam is one of the best places in Arizona to look for wintering diving ducks. Several Barrow's Goldeneyes and many Common Goldeneyes have also been present this winter.
